About puckforecastai
puckforecastai is an independent NHL analysis site run from Toronto, Canada by a small team of hockey fans and analysts. We are not affiliated with the NHL or any team. Everything on the site is free to read.
How our predictions are made
- We use only information available before puck drop: standings, goal differential, home ice, rest days and back-to-backs, special teams, shots, faceoffs, injuries, team news and head-to-head history.
- A statistical model gives each team's win chance, expected score and 10,000 simulated games. Our analysts then explain the reasons, the expected gameplay and what could prove us wrong.
- We publish a pick only for the next game day, before the games start, and never change it afterwards.
How we track results
When we tested our method on 1,573 past NHL games, it called the winner 60.6% of the time. After each game, we mark every published pick right or wrong automatically. NHL games always produce a winner, so there are no pushes. Every past pick, with its result, is in the past games archive.
